Hey folks - just back from 8 days in one of my favourite self-drive safari locations, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari desert.

We found these two lion cubs and their mother one morning after a heavy downpour the previous night (summer rains had started), playing and being all curious in the Nossob riverbed. This photo was taken in the far north of the South African section of the park (there's also a significant portion in Botswana), an area few people get to even when the park gets busy. We couldn't get closer but I liked framing the environment with them in the shot...obviously this works better at high resolution than at web-sized posting.

Techs:
Nikon D810
Nikkor 400mm f2.8 VR
1.2x crop mode
f4.0 | 1/1000 SS | ISO-720

PS: Have a great and blessed festive season!!

When you click on this it springs to life and you can see the amazing depth you captured here Morkel, the trees become almost 3D. Beautifully done!

There is an elegance about the trees that make a nice image by themselves, add the playful cub and this is a delightful image.
