In 2 weeks I will be heading back to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where this image was taken back in February of 2012. We came around a bend in the road between Kwang and Bedinkt, north of Nossob camp, and these three cheetah brothers were drinking from the puddles left in the road by the previous night's rainstorm. Many people don't like including roads in their wildlife images - and I generally try to avoid including them as well - but that doesn't mean it cannot work to your advantage. Check out this post I wrote last year about this issue:

Love the lighting and attention you've gathered here Morkel, the 3rd from (our) left didn't read the lighting script unfortunately.......there's always one.

I don't have a problem with African wildlife on the dirt roads Morkel, we know they often use them to get from A to B and its just a natural part of their territory exploration. often its the best way to get a clear view of the big cats without them being hidden in the grass and vegetation. I remember this band of brothers, and here they look like they have had a good feast with their full bellies!

Very nice, I like the intense stare each is giving the photographer!

Yeah I know what you mean about the roads but in this case I think it is a very good nature story telling image. The light is wonderful and having all 3 looking right at you is the icing on this cake.
