Water Monitor eats Land Crab

On our Chobe, Botswana trip we came across this Monitor Lizard with a Land Crab in it's mouth. After some considerable effort getting it into the right position he managed to swallow it. I didn't have enough pixels to really make a close up of just the head and the crab, in addition there was an out of focus tree trunk at the bottom which I cropped out, the result was this standard 3x2 crop.

Nate,
I'm glad you didn't get a tighter shot. I like the composition of this one and the out of focus tree adds a bit of balance to the shot. The picture tells a story about an animal that we rarely see.

I was surprised at just how big these lizards were when we were in Botswana- and how fast they could move! Great image Nate, well done!
