It's the time of the year to photograph bobcats again.  I shot this image today leading a group of 7 Italian wildlife photographers on day 2 of our 6 day safari.  In two days we have had 19 bobcat encounters here in the beautiful dry California mountains - but this was the best.  This cat kindly climbed an oak for us and then calmly hung out for the eight of us to photographer (her, I think) at point blank range.

Nikon D3s body, 500mm f4 lens, Induro Tripod, ISO 800, 1/250 at f4.5, raw converted to a jpg in CS6.  I don't know why I was at f4.5, should have been at f4.  Her eyes are gorgeous!  Tomorrow its black bears..................

Great portrait -- my preference would be to include the entire animal. Terrific detail!

Cute pussy cat. I don't need the rear end; it's all about the face and the look

I couldn't get the whole cat at 15 feet with a 500mm lens, but backing up would have brought oak branches into play, so close was the correct shot.  The cat just sat there.  In the past 8 years I have photographed only 2 cats in trees, until yesterday, then two more cats in one day in trees.
