Wild and elusive , can best explain this hungry bear.

The Mountains were still covered in the deep winter snow, Valleys were magnificent sites with high and very steep waterfalls of snow melt , cascading down the mountain slopes. Winds were turbulent at times on our mountainous flight . The Alaskan  mountains can be seen in the distance of 25 miles.

The Grizzly Bears of Northern BC are considered to be Very large,  due to their rich diet.  Seen eating the sedge grass  which is very rich in protein and required to sustain them after their long winter dormancy period.

Breeding season here and the Grunts & Snorts of competing males is hair raising and extremely exciting to witness.

Taken @ 8;30 am  BC Time , Raining, Overcast, but low wind
Mist & low lying clouds moving and drifting with the quiet winds.
Hand Held while drifting with the tide  in a Zodiac boat , at lower tide.
This low  vantage point is ideal to show off the amazing bulk and size of the Honey coloured Grizzly.
d700, with 70-200mm F2.8 with VR on normal @ 70mm.
Almost Full Frame with some minor crop to level.
1/250, with F9 ( to get some depth of focus)
ISO 450, -.67 Meter Compensation,

.....Larger Version shows Excellent Detail....

Comments and Critique appreciated.

Very pretty setting, and the fog gives a moody feel. Good detail in the bear. I like the mouthfull of grass.

Excellent image of this handsome subject Bill! With the inclusion of the habitat I feel like I'm almost there and the face detail is superb. A beauty!

Gorgeous shot -- great atmosphere, and low camera position. Beautiful detail and expression too!

Outstanding!

The bear's focus on you.  The sedge grass.  The low perspective.  The rainforest wetness everywhere.  And….your description.

Thanks

Bill, congrats on EP. You certainly deserve it! I love this image for so many reasons. The mood, the angle of view, the habitat, the look in his eyes, and most of all the treatment you used to bring out such amazing detail in his fur. Fantastic!
