When my girls were young they liked visiting the Singapore zoo and enjoyed the Orangutan show. I kept outside because I thought this highly endangered primate was being exploited. A keeper however explained that most of their charges were orphaned or rescued and they like us needed stimulation to avoid boredom.
Unfortunately in many parts of Borneo the habitat of the Orangutan is being destroyed for palm oil plantations or decimated by logging. I have been for a number of trips along the Kinabatangan River and you are fortunate to see this magnificent ape in the wild. They are solo fruit seekers and it is a thrill to see them in their natural habitat. Canon EOS1D Mk3, 500mm f4, 1.4x, f8, 1/60 400ISO Cheers Graeme |
