After finishing up at WNC FotoFest this weekend, I decided to run over to Cades Cove in the Smokies to spend a couple of days. The first afternoon I was there I hiked in half a mile up a trail through a cool dense stand of eastern hemlock and found this juvenile black bear nosing around. Other bears I saw over the couple of days I was there were already starting to switch over to acorns and other mast that was just beginning to fall. This guy on the other hand was tearing open logs and doing a considerable amount of digging.

Cheers,
Jared

Very nice pose and I like the seedling in the lower left.
The detail shows much better in the shadowbox.
