This is one of my favorites from the Sequoia NP wildlife safari on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.  Nikon D3s body, 500mm f4 lens, f4 @ 1/125 second, ISO 1600, Indura Tripod, raw converted to jpg in CS6.

The sow cinnamon black bear went into the burned out hollow of a fallen sequoia tree, here she is coming back out to meet up with her nearby cub.  Having walked through the sequoia groves (and photographed many of the fallen trees) I never thought about looking into the hollows for wildlife.

Here is a link to my blog article about the whole day.  http://amwestphoto.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... ar-safari/

Impressive image. Love the subtle colors of the bear against the dark background and the framing of the log. I might have considered cloning out the light colored line in the middle left.
