I've been going through some old images to find a few suitable for black and white portrait conversion.

Normally I prefer colour images, but occasionally I feel the strength of character in certain individual subjects can be further emphasised by a black and white study.

I would be interested to hear your honest opinions!  :)

Really wonderful! B/W works great here. Tons of character in that face, the nose scratches look great.

Carol, striking portrait and image with lovely tonal variations throughout and especially the mane, in which to contemplate all the layers and thickness.  I like the world-weary, all-knowing look that you've captured.

Lovely vintage look from the B/W conversion --- of course the seasoned look of this fellow contributes to that too.

Lovely work Carol,
The face on this one is unique, as he has a somewhat flat nose. The b&w conversion suites the subject well and really emphasizes the form of the animal.

Nice work,
bruce

I love this B/W portrait Carol. I think it accentuates all the striking parts of this wonderful animal. I also like the dark background a lot. It is a beautiful image all around

Hello Carole

Well done, Strong in BW.

Too bad about the missing front paws, would have preferred more of them .

I know what you mean Bill, I do have the front paws (even though they're mostly hidden in the grass), but I cropped them out to concentrate on the face for this particular portrait.  8)

I think the nose shape has something to do with the fact that he has obviously been thumped on it a few times, not least by his pride females!  :D

I love this B&W image. The character and majesty of the lion comes through. The scars on the nose convey that this male has engaged in a few battles.

I feel that a sepia version might be worth exploring.

Now there's a king with an attitude! I very much like the b/w version, brings out the details in the face and simplifies the image.
