Exquisite detail in this wonderful face. The low light didn't stop you getting this beautiful portrait!

Thank you. This June, I had embarked on a 3000 km roadtrip to visit the Central Indian forests and shoot tigers. That particular safari, we roamed around for three hours in 45 degrees C heat. No alarm calls, no fresh pug marks. Then, after we had given up all hope, we encountered her a little before the national park exit gate.

Couldn't let a little bad light get in the way, could I, after all the effort and investment ? :-)

Btw, here is a post I had made on Facebook for those who are passionate about tigers:
-----
The Hierarchy of Needs and the Tiger (with due apologies to Maslow)
---------------------------------
Level 1: I want to see a tiger in the wild
Level 2: I want to click a photo of a wild tiger
Level 3: I want a sharp, close up shot of a wild tiger
Level 4: I want that face-on, eye contact shot at eye level - in good light
Level 5: I want that perfect shot, in great light, of a unique moment - small cubs, or two tigers fighting, or mating, or a tiger kill in action etc.

Wildlife photographers follow Gordon Gekko's philosophy.

Great portrait of this amazing cat.

How many tigers do you normally see in Kanha? Asking because I will be there in the not too distant future.

If you have good luck you can see a few :-)

People had very nice sightings in Apr - May. I went in early June and it was hit and miss. Best season is spring/early summer.

Tadoba, Bandhavgarh and Ranthambore are better for pure tiger sightings. Kanha has beautiful landscape, so that is an added attraction.

Thanks. Looking forward to visiting Kanha. Bandhavgarh and Ranthambore are the two other parks we are going to visit.
