After years of hoping, a natural black bear encounter during one of my backcountry camping trips. Just a wandering bear, not one at a campsite.  The foreground grassy vegetation was completely blown out so heavy recovery settings. The bear was such a surprise I was handholding my 500mm F4 and perhaps nervously shaking a bit at such a close encounter. Shutter speed was unfortunately slow for handheld.

Shutter speed: 1/60 sec
Aperture: 7.1
Exposure mode: Av
Exposure compensation: +1/3
Flash: Off
Metering mode: Evaluative
Drive mode: Continuous
ISO: 400
Lens: EF500mm f/4L IS USM

Very nice shot. I can understand how adrenaline flows when you finally encounter a big mammal you have been wanting to meet for a long time.

The branch in the right could be a little distracting, you might want to remove that.

For a shaky handheld first encounter you have done a great job in getting such beautiful detail in that wonderful face Jeff! Sweet image, well done!

I can't even imagine how much I'd have been shaking at this encounter! Result looks pretty good, I'm rather surprised it was such a slow shutter speed, I wouldn't have guessed that.
