I just happened to be focusing on a small flock of noisy Red-billed Oxpeckers on this hippo when all of a sudden this 5ft croc leapt out in an unsuccessful attempt to grab one, if it wasn't for the D4's 10fps rate this capture would have been far less effective, a case of the right place @ the right time. A most unusual encounter!

D4  500 f/4 VRII +1.4tc  1/1600s f/6.3 ISO800, small crop for composition.

Remote Nth Luangwa Nat Park- Zambia.

Cheers

Remarkable action --- the croc provides a sense of scale on how huge those hippo's really are.

Thanks Joe, Gary & Mike

The hippo didn't even flinch, things may have been different if it was a mature croc. :D

Not much of a meal for this young crocodile Mark - but they would be packed with protein! Nice behaviour capture.
