The word Gerenuk comes from the Somali language[font=sans-serif], meaning 'Giraffe -necked.'[/font]
[font=sans-serif]As this funny looking Antelope doesn't graze, it needs the long neck to reach the top of the bush where it can find the fresh leaves.[/font]
They occur only in north-east Africa

A perfect illustration of just how athletic and supple this particular species are with their ability to stretch and reach vegetation up to 6-8feet above ground. As I am sure you know, they don't need water and can get all the moisture they require from the tiny leaves they are able to reach at this higher level.

Very nice browsing image of this pretty antelope. You can see well the adaptation in the hip rotation that allows them to browse like this.
