From my Archive....

Elk or Wapiti  (Cervus Canadensis )

Elk were extirpated from this region & reintroduced many seasons ago, and doing fine now.

The Bull Elk was walking away when the females started to follow behind in a Line formation. Heads swinging & tails bobbing , then a noise startled the Line-Up and within a few seconds I was fortunate to Grab a few frames of their attentiveness.

Was a very cold day in Northern Ontario Canada , about -30 C. Without the wind it was  very comfortable.

Taken At 316mm, 1/500, F5.2, ISO 200

HandHeld

Great multiple poses, Bill, and a rarity to catch them lined up looking in the same direction.  Image looks particularly nice when viewed with the dark background, as the bottom and lower sides of the image in the snow become more clearly defined.

Isn't it wonderful when nature presents such a perfect line up - but you've still got to be there at the right time and have the talent to get the shot! I love the symmetry (only one cow raising her head just a fraction more than the others) and senses alert - sight, smell, hearing all directed towards the unknown distraction.

Superb image Bill!

Hello

This was taken awhile ago, but remember the capture very well. The cold finally drove me off this encounter with my feet screaming cold and my body shaking. The experience was amazing to see and enjoy . I really enjoy the innocence of the animals displaying when not threatened by my presence! :)

Thanks...Just terrific in every way. And it so clearly illustrates the importance of high end high megapixel sensors to produce great photography.

Lovely shot Bill. What a nice moment!

You said that this is a cropped photo. If so, would leaving a little more space in the front of the deers make sense?
