Green Sea Turtles Mating

Another shot from last years Galapagos tour. We saw quite a few Green Sea Turtles and saw this pair mating. The guide told us it was quite an ordeal, lasting 2 to 4 hours. Other males will come and bite at the legs of the male to try and take his place.

Nikon D7000, Sigma 150-500 at 380mm 1/800 F9, iso 500, handheld from boat.

Very cool behavior to witness and capture. Gotta love the aqua water color to set off the colors of the turtles. I might think about cropping a bit off the bottom...
