I was guiding a group of artists from the Virginia Equine Artist Association, introducing them to the local wild horses.  As the sun set over the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve I watched as this opportunity appeared in front of my lens. I dialed back the exposure compensation on my Canon 7D to give me a full stop of underexposure, framed the shot and tripped the shutter. I shot a few frames before the wild horse moved off the top of the dune. This is my favorite of the series.

Canon 7D, Sigma 50-500mm, Induro  tripod. ISO 500, f/8.0, 1/3200, EC -1.

Absolutely beautiful! The separation in the front legs and the sliver of separation of the mouth from the ground, plus the tail and mane blowing, really make this as the silhouette has a lot of interest.

Well done Bob, the nicest sunset backlit armpit I've seen!  8)

Really lovely silhouette and beautifully highlighted by such a glowing sunset.

Awesome silhouette and placement of the sun. I love how the scruffiness of the mane, tail, and coat help give a wildness to the subject.
