A moment from my recent trip to the Chobe river in Botswana. This young bull was enjoying a good frolick in the water, and came out head swishing and eyes all crazy.

Captured from our specialised photographic boat, I was sitting on the floor with my lens resting over the side. In hindsight I should have gone to f8 for more DOF, but I'm happy with the sequence I got.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f5.6 | 1/1600 SS | ISO-1100

Full frame except for slight crop due to rotation (to get water level in front of ele level)

fantastic!.......great front on view and wild look!, excellent low angle, blurredFG /BG........but in my biased opinion it's the two eyes very much in shot that do it for me!(and those wide spread threat displaying ears)......wonderful!!!

Sensational image Morkel!! Your capture of this young bull elephant is exceptional in every respect -- composition, detail, eye contact, facial expression, emotion.

Best Regards,

Roman :-)

It always amazes me how much emotion they can display in their tiny eyes! Superb behaviour illustration Morkel, excellent detail.

Impact! This is one of the most exciting nature images I think I've seen…….. the ears, the skin, the crazy eyes.

Hope that boat's got a good reverse.
