Stroke of luck. I did nothing to place him. He just walked into the frame and stopped for about 1 second and his legs happened to be positioned for a nice star effect.

Perfect timing and composition. I might try some selective contrast or the "structure" or "clarity" filters in Nik software and Lightroom, respectively, to bring out even more texture and detail in this photo.
