Castle Eilean Donan - Scotland
645DF+, IQ260, 40-80mm @65mm, ISO 50, 10sec, f/6.3, (3 frame focus bracket)

Taken with the biggest, baddest, sharpest, heaviest, most awesomest ;) wide to mid range zoom ever made.  It's 35mm full frame equivalent focal length range is 24-48mm.  It's a beast that takes 105mm filters and weighs almost as much as a 300/2.8 and is about 2/3 the size of a 300/2.8

Gorgeous shot EJ, nice tonal range, perfect mood for b/w. How about posting a pic of that monster zoom? ;)

I haven't been able to find anything with a photo of it and something similar which would be like a 24-70 f/4 but the difference would be amusing.  This lens is $9K by the way and is an f/4-5.6 zoom.

Great image EJ, the choice of B&W is very appropriate given the medieval setting and I love the perspective.

$8,990 to be precise ;) and I've only found top view illustrations. How's the auto-focus?

I'm sure the AF would be OK on a body with AF that was worth a salt.  the 645DF+ AF is at about a 1990 level of sophistication with a center point only screw driven mechanism.  But I don't use Phase with AF at all, its just not good enough even in good light.  The viewfinder is awesome though and huge so manual focus is a breeze.

This shot here was in the dark as you can see from the exposure data and the AF wouldn't have even detected anything under those circumstances.  I doubt it can see much below Ev +5.

Come to think of it, my Maxxum 9000 in 1989 had significantly better AF than the 645DF+

Cool shot.  Not tempted to use with a view camera?  Or is that completely anathema?

Actually then new A-series from Phase is an Alpa technical camera with Rodenstock lenses and a Phase back.

A complete system with everything I need is abut $70K!!!  I got to play with it in Scotland and I was very tempted then but fortunately had the willpower to resist.

It is without question the highest quality imaging possible today by the civilian.

Here is a nice PDF brochure on the Phase One A system:
www.phaseone.com/~/media/Phase%20One/1- ... e-web.ashx

Note that the other two lenses in the set add $15K to the prices listed plus most would need at least one more lens to go a bit longer than the three that are offered directly by PhaseOne and likely a 5th lens that goes between the 35mm and the 75mm.  To figure out 35mm equivalents of the lenses you have to multiply the focal lengths by 0.6 for the IQ260 and IQ280 and by 0.8 for the IQ250.  Note that each lens is custom profiled for everything including cross field color rendition and accuracy and that data is written into the IQ's firmware before it even ships to you.  It is custom tuned for perfection for each camera/back, and lens.

I think my own view is that if I were shelling out that much I'd want a body with full movements à la 4x5 / 8x10.

You can put movements on it. It is completely modular.

I don't think you have movements on the P1-A, as it is based on the Alpa TC body. This is what makes the calibration of vignetting easy. I suspect Phase one's next step will be a tech cam with movements, where they add encoders on the tilt and shift, so you can pre-calculate and automatically apply the LCCs.
Right now, you would need to get an Alpa STC (for example) to get some movements.

Note that the price of a digital back plummets as soon as you take it out of the dealership (by like 50%). So if you're really interested, have a look at pre-owned / refurbished backs (with warranty).
As for the lenses. Yeah, they're expensive. But only a factor of 2 compared to an Otus for example (I'm talking about tech cam primes, not the Phase one zoom...).

And I like the picture too.
