OK, I had to post this. The mods can remove it if they deem it necessary. This was my first underwater photo, taken in 1972. The camera was a Nikonos II with a Bulb flash. You had to replace the bulb with each shot and keep the used ones from floating to the surface. The image was taken on my second dive!

Times have changed. (I was cleaning out the slide closet...)

Wow -- that's an interesting bit of history Stan (and an attractive underwater subject as well.) I can't imagine using flashbulbs underwater!

They made a little sizzle when they went off. I had no idea what I was doing. Just trying not to drown. Not sure how I ended up with the camera.
I had no certification and never tried diving before. Must have liked it!

Nice legs.... a shot including the fins would make it for me.

Me too, but I had no idea what I was doing. This was a range finder camera and parallax UW takes a lot of getting used to.
When I switched from a Nikonos V to a Nikon F4 SLR UW photography really changed for me.

Stan, this is a hoot!

I started taking u/w photos around 1972, but, thankfully, didn't get to use flashbulbs. Topside strobes in housings were just coming into play.

I love looking at the equipment worn by the diver. It brings back many memories of my first years diving.

THANKS FOR POSTING.

Mark

Wow, that brings back memories.  I too had a Nikonos with a flash unit.  I had a neoprene strip with holes in it attached to the flash unit.  Flash bulbs were stuck into the holes and they would float above the camera.  I didn't get any under water denizens that looked this good though.
