We are having image size issues with our new high def 1920 X 1080 digital image projector for a photo club.  We used to use a 1024 X 768 pixel format projector.  As long as folks did not crop too much, they had enough "meat" to make it to 1024 or 768.

Thing is now, 1980 requires nearly twice as many pixels to look presentable.  So the overboard croppers are not happy as their images often do not hit 1920.  When stretched to 1920 they fall apart.

Progress comes at a cost.

So can't they upres the image to add more pixels?
For a projected imaged which never is all that clear even with the best images it should be better than a stretched or jaggie image that falls apart. Just have them make it 1920 on the long edge.

We had our photo club meeting tonight and the new projector was a mind blower. Everybody loved it. It auto up sized any images too small and auto down rezed any too big. And, it did so in a manner which somehow kept the image looking great, which was never the case on the old projectors we have used.

Having debugged a few systems, what I've learned is that interpolation can happen at 3 levels:
- The player (if you're reading pictures from a CD or DVD, or a watching a movie)
- The A/V amplifier (if you go through one, mostly for movies, but it depends on your setup)
- The beamer itself.
Usually one of those is best at the job, but figuring out who does it can be a pain. When it's properly done, it can be quite nice (giving good results on low res images or an old DVD)

We have only been working with the new projector since Tuesday when it arrived.  At first we were freaking out about image size not looking good as everybody involved is OCD perfectionist.  Last night's meeting proved our fears wrong.  We had Night Sky Tours Dennis Mammana as our presenter.  Out of 60 guests, we had about 30 members present images.  No matter how inconsistent image size was, the projector somehow saved everybody's images.  Folks were stoked!

The main hang up was the remote.  Dennis brought in his fancy $300 Logitec remote (upper left in photo), and it did not work on our Yosemite Mac.  We beat on it for a half hour.  Solution was we switched to the Windows laptop Dennis brought.  Good news was we had the projector calibrated to the Mac and the Windows rig looked about the same.  Another first, as in the bad old days, there was a vast difference in calibration.

The club is now going to purchase a remote for the Yosemite Mac so we are dialed in for our guest presenters.

Anybody looking for a great digital image projector, this is it.  HD 1920 X 1080, great color, contrast, and brightness, even if the room is a bit lit.  We got it wholesale because the club president works at a digital AV place.  I see it is now on sale even cheaper than we got.  BH Photo link:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1097216-REG/infocus_in3138hda_dlp_1080p_1920x1080_4000.html/BI/5155/KBID/5867  Once you add it to your cart, the price drops from $999 US to $815.
