I have been looking at the Fractal Design Define R 5 computer case.  I know the Asus Sabertooth Z 97 motherboard will fit.  The case is nice.  Sleek design.

However, I prefer the Fractal Design core 1100 Micro ATX Mini Tower.  USB ports on front to avoid dust entry and the top is closed where all the grunge gets in.  However, I fear the Asus Sabertooth motherboard won't fit.

How can I tell?

Steve,

If you look at the specs on Newegg, the Fractal Design 1100 Micro ATX Mini Tower will only take Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX motherboards. IOW the small ones. The Asus Sabertooth board is a full-sized ATX form factor board, hence it will not fit.

I wouldn't worry about dust entry from the USB ports. A tiny bit may come in through them, but nothing compared to the amount that the cooling fans will pump into the case. Getting a case with even rudimentary dust filters for the intake fans will help a lot. In any event, blowing the dust out of the inside of the case should be done every few months. Canned air will do a good enough job.

I have the Fractal Define R4 case and it's terrific. Don't know the difference between the R4 and the R5 but it has several filters as you noted and excellent cooling fans with space for more. The sound deadening works very well. Even with 4 internal HD's it's a very quiet PC.
