I'm using windows 8.1 64 bit OS - so why can't I run IE and FF browsers in 64. I tried to update but it says it isn't compatible?

with my previous Vista I was able to run both.

Are you sure you are up to date on the very latest versions. I would completely uninstall both browsers, then go to the internet and reinstall the browsers with fresh downloads from MS and Mozilla's sites. it should autodetect the OS and install a compatible version.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/do ... 8&r=1&as=s

It will not be released for 8.1RT due to Mozilla stated Microsoft store restrictions.

I don't think the question was about RT.

No, but the support answer was geared to both platforms in the main topic with a common link then sub topics :)

"Does Firefox work on Windows 8 and Windows RT?"

Can you set up a shortcut to FF and set its property to run in Win XP or VISTA compatibility mode?

Also did you uninstall FF first before your download was installed?

Here is a full release, not an update:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org ... 2028.0.exe

Save that file to your hard disk and then run it. You may have to right click on it and select run as admin, not sure for Win 8. You may have to set its shortcut for VISTA or Win XP compatibility but this 32 bit one should install automatically in that mode.

All released latest FF versions are Win 32 bit applications that should run under 8 if it will allow it.

I also have those 32 bit versions running on a Win 7 - 64 pc.

You also might have to login with admin rights.

Hopefully, none of the security apps are blocking it.
