I know the pluses for being able to run Windows programs on the Surface Pro.....

What I don't have experience with is using the SP as an actual tablet (roughly twice the weight) and for using it as a means to show your images off to folks.

Real world experience input from anyone?

Price doesn't matter as I would go with the Surface Pro which is about the same price as the tablet.

I am about to go on a long walk (500+ miles) across Spain, so have been in the market for something lightish that i can blog and download images to, I looked at the Windows surface as well as some other tablets, I ended up with the ASUS T100 64GB which is basically a laptop that converts to a tablet at the press of a button, It has a USB 3 port as wll, I have had it a couple of weeks and seems to work very well, Off subject can anybody recommend a simply program for processing, I am CC but do not really want to load that onto the device

I looked at the T100 but the inability to run any legacy Windows programs turned me off from it completely.

You are correct Dave. I had thought this came with RT.

I guess that if I am going to go the Windows rather than android route, the higher resolution screen of the Surface Pro, the higher end processor and more memory would be important.

What I am not at all convinced about though is with a 16:9 aspect ratio of the SP how it will actually show off images to people.

Also, the 4 hour battery life and proprietary charger port on the SP are a drawback.

I guess I need to decide if I want to just show images and have a nice android tablet as I do with the Tab Pro 10.1 or if I might really use the SP and do something with it. I want to do a new website and this would sure work well during the day or when not at home but the battery life is a bot of a killer and it's not worth springing a grand for the SP2.

I suppose even with the battery life which matches my 17" Samsung laptop it would save me from hauling the laptop around except for when I really needed it.

Although I have not tested extensively, I purchased a 256GB Surface Pro 2 tablet last month to use when I am working on my Masters that I am starting this summer. My Master's is taught in the field and I wanted a tablet that ran full blown Windows programs and in a pinch that I could run Photoshop and Lightroom on when I travel. To me, the imagery is good on the SP2. I have been watching movies on it, running various applications and have no real problems with it. My main motivation was so that I could use Microsoft OneNote with a true fine tip stylus. It is very responsive, compared to the pencil eraser that I have used on my Asus Transformer Prime (Android) and an Ipad that I had access to.

I understand your concern about the proprietary charger, but I think you will run into that with just about anything, especially given the power requirements of the SP2. As for battery life, I am getting more than 4 hours and probably closer to the 7 hours that is advertised. The one problem I did have was some how I managed to move the power setting from efficient to performance, and at that point I only got about four hours.

Also, I highly recommend getting the keyboard cover. I purchased the one with the chiclet keyboard because I wanted to feel the keys move. I believe they make one for a little more that also has extra battery capacity in it.

If you have further questions, let me know. I am still glad I purchased it and the weight is not that noticeably when compared to my android device.

Thanks for your input Steve.

I actually bought the SP 126GB 1st version since BB had it the other day on special for $499.
Bought the regular version 2 back-lit keyboard which I haven't opened yet...seriously considering going back and getting the one with the power in it for $70 more. It weighs a fair bit more though so I am contemplating that.
