It shouldn't do that. There is a problem somewhere in your color management if they look dramatically different after converting to sRGB. If anything at all, they should look a bit more saturated not flatter.

So there is a problem somewhere in the coller management. this can take some time to dig through so the more info you give about your "soup to nuts" color management scheme, the more likely we can help you. You might start with an internet search and also searching this forum as these things have been discussed many times.

Agree with E.J. There may be slight differences converting from ProPhoto RGB to sRGB, but not anything I would ever describe as "turn to mud". Something isn't configured right I'm guessing, or there's a flawed step in the workflow. Give us some details and it will probably become clear...

Hi , The problem may be a simple one ,I think i am making the mistake of assigning a new profile in assign profile , Where i should be just soft proofing as for my print workflow ,I have just done the two ways and difference is not dramatic when i just soft proof .I will post something later today and see how it goes thanks for your help . Cheers Gary

Yes... "assigning" a profile is a specific thing that should be rarely used, and only in very specific circumstances. The normal thing you want to do is "convert" to a profile, not "assign".

Yup that would do it Assign and Convert are two very different things. In almost every instance where you want to take an image from one color space to another, you want to convert it. Convert tries to maintain the color and luminance where possible while assign simply takes the same color values and just puts a different color space tag on the image.
