Anyone know of one that would work. I don't really want to buy SD cards.

The iPad doesn't source enough current to reliably drive most CF card readers with every type of CF card but you can easily use your camera as the card reader by plugging it into the Camera Connection kit for iPad via the USB cable that came with your camera. That is exactly what the USB adapter in the Camera Connection kit was intended to be used and it works perfectly.

So far this one worked fine for me with my Sandisk extreme III/IV and Lexar pro cards:

Perhaps the IPad 4,5, or 6 will include that difficult to install USB connection.

I found that if you use a plug in 4 port USB hub that it will work with a normal reader but it does require power. I got one at best buy for 25.00

Too thick and requires too much room inside the case - not gonna happen. The iPad is basically a case containing a HUGE battery and a teeny, tiny circuit board.
