Hi,

I'm looking for the suggestions on noise reducing headphones.
I plan to use them for airplane flights as well as at home to reduce household noises so that I can work on writing/photographs.
Primary considerations are comfort, as I expect to wear them hours at a time, noise cancelling as well as noise deadening ability(i.e. full ear coverage to deaden all wavelengths.)
Standard construction ear protection is not an option as I want to listen to music from a laptop or smartphone.
I am not looking at a specific budget, but I'm not spending a thousand dollars either.
Any suggestions would be great!
thanks
Scott

I have both Bose and Panasonic noise-cancellers ... I would say that the Panasonics do a slightly better job than the Bose, especially on airplanes which is where you really need them, but the Bose are definitely more comfortable for long periods.

You might want to look at wireless headphones that also might offer noise canceling features if you are going to use them at home only. I enjoy watching tv with them. The less expensive ones are not designed with any noise cancellation features, but Bose has a model that looks like it could do both.

I've used Bose, Audio-Technica and Beats.  They are all great.  Bose is the most comfortable if wearing for several hours.  Beats is better for music.  Audio-Technica is the value play.  Audio-Technica noise cancellation is really effective and the headphones are priced below $100.  Noise cancellation is not quite as good as Bose or Beats but it's pretty darned good and works very well on airplanes, about as loud an environment as you are going to find.  And for more than $300 cheaper than Bose/Beats you cannot go wrong with them.
Cheers,
Doug

Beats is being sued by Bose for patent infringement.

I'm sure that doesn't please Apple.

rather than headphones on the airplane I've used Panasonic's noise cancelling earbuds. Not sure if they are still available but they have worked great for me.

Thanks for the replies, if I was just planning on airplane usage, I'd probably go for ear buds. I just discovered I have Visa points(aeroplan) that will allow me to buy the Bose QC lineup. I'll probably go for over the ear style.

For long hours, the Bose are far more comfortable than any "buds".

Personally, I'm not a fan of buds. I find the sensation of having something jammed in my ear disconcerting.
Cheers,
Doug
