When I listed my 500 lens for sale a person whom I do not know sent me a PM saying that my asking price was close to what a new lens could be purchased for using CanonPriceWatch.

I had never heard of CanonPriceWatch so I did some checking. Here's what I received back from CanonPriceWatch in response to a hypothetical inquiry I had made.

A reputable US Canon authorized dealer is willing to sell the EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM for $8,359.00. Free standard shipping is included. They do not charge tax to Texas. They are an authorized dealer (a reputable one that we already list on our site!), this is a brand new Canon USA model with a full Canon USA warranty. This is normal and unopened retail packaging, with everything normally included.

A reputable Canadian Canon authorized dealer is willing to sell a brand new EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM for $7,499.00 (US$). No mail-in rebate is required, and none are eligible. Free priority shipping from Canada is included, and no other sales taxes, duties, or fees are owing. (This store has shipped hundreds of orders to the US, and not once has anyone been charged any import fees, taxes, or duties.) Payment is in US dollars, so there are no foreign exchange fees. Canada and the US are one Canon warranty region so you will have a 1-year Canon USA warranty, as the item comes with a Canon USA warranty card, just like any US purchased camera or lens. They are a reputable dealer (the source of several of our group buys and deals). This is normal and unopened retail packaging, with everything normally included.

The Canon 500 f4 IS II lens sells for $8,999 at every dealer I know of.

Is CanonPriceWatch legitimate? Has anybody ever used them?

I have no experience with them, but this older thread has a lot of positive comments about them:

http://www.Greentoe.com works exactly the same way. I have used them with success.

I have used canonpricewatch.com twice to buy lenses at "street price".  It worked perfectly.

Check the FAQs on the site for an explanation of street prices.

They're simply taking "advantage" of the pricing and currency difference between Canada and the US...aka arbitrage. For us it is now rarely cheaper to buy from the USA.
