Hi there

I need to visit the Twin Cities around October 8th for a few days and may be able to get a morning to bird. What would be a good place for some morning photography for a couple of hours? I would probably need to leave around 10a at the latest and was wondering if it would be worth bringing out my heavy gear on the trip.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Regards,

You might look into the Minnesota River Valley National Wildlife Refuge:

This is prime time for sandhill crane photography in "nearby" Crex Meadows Wisconsin. I'll be spending two nights there on the 16th, but the cranes should be flying in and out of the refuge during the early morning (be there by 6:15 am) and through the evening (from about 4:30 pm to sunset). This area is the Bosque of the Midwest, though we're talking a thousand cranes rather than 10,000. Crex is a long drive from downtown Minneapolis (90 to 120 minutes) but the refuge is a great place for catching migratory waterfowl, raptors and songbirds.

regards,
bruce

Hi Bruce

It looks very promising indeed. I need to be in Rochester for business so this is in the opposite direction. Will research it and keep you posted. Thanks for the pointer.
