I have payed the 40$ to become a member and the site is still recognizing me as a free member. I have no idea how to fix this.

Hello - not sure when you signed up but it is not an automated process and generally takes 24 hours to activate (that is indicated in several places including the page to sign up and the page to pay.) Your membership appears to be activated now.
