St. Augustine, Florida - Historic Coast Technical Series

Learn the techniques Greg Downing has developed over the course of more than a decade with daily technical sessions on exposure, composition and in-flight and action avian photography. A special session on using flash in your nature photography will be presented with real-world in-the-field practice with Greg on hand to help while you hone your newly learned techniques. Greg will also demonstrate various image processing and other digital techniques using the latest versions of Lightroom, Photoshop and NIK software packages.

This small group workshop is the best way to hone your skills alongside one of the most raved about and easy-to-learn-from teachers in the industry. Greg will help you work toward consistency in creating dynamic and pleasing images of birds in their natural environment. Work alongside Greg as he lets you in on the secrets he uses to create intimate close ups and dynamic in-flight images of birds.

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is host to a large rookery of nesting birds, most of which will be in high breeding plumage, and may include species such as: Wood Stork, Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Heron, Tri-colored Heron Black-crowned Night Heron, Snowy Egret, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, and Roseate Spoonbill. Most birds will be nesting with chicks at various stages of growth, and sometimes at arms length from your lens!

While the environment of 100's of birds all around you may seem overwhelming, you'll be encouraged to slow down, take things in, create your images one at a time, and really absorb what you're learning from Greg during this hands-on comprehensive workshop.

We will have early and late access to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm for all of our field shooting as well as all-day access to a hotel-based classroom where we will base our workshop and conduct technical classroom sessions each day.

"I did not know what to expect going into these workshops as I have not taken a workshop in over 20 years, but was pleasantly surprised at Greg's easy going, helpful yet unobtrusive and friendly manner. As a nature photography instructor, I would recommend his workshops to my students without reservation and hope to participate in future workshops myself."

- Richard G. - Georgia

"I had a fabulous time.. both Florida workshops exceeded all my expectations I had imagined. I photographed more bird varieties in the one week with you than I have in my entire lifetime! Thanks for a great time and awesome learning experience!"

Workshop Testimonials:

"Just back from Tanzania with Greg Downing. What an amazing trip and experience. The wildlife photography was incredible. The guides outstanding. Wonderful memories for a lifetime. Seeing the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet come to life in front of me was the most memorable. In particular, I enjoyed seeing the wildebeest migration and the cheetah hunting."

"Thanks to the both of you (Greg and Alan) for putting on such a good workshop. I think that all the folks regardless of ability level got something out of the workshop. Also, thanks for being so flexible in getting people to the places that they wanted to shoot. Alan thanks for the setups, a cursory look at my photos shows that I have some ones that I will like very much. I know that Judy and I enjoyed ourselves - thanks for the fun workshop!"
