HEATHER FORCIER

Heather Forcier was captivated by nature long before she began photographing it. A native Vermonter, she grew up surrounded by distinct, vibrant seasons and cherished sightings of wildlife. For as long as she can remember she’s studied and drawn animals and birds in pencil. Her desire to acquire an SLR camera was realized in mid-2000 while working in the photo industry for the manufacturer of PocketWizard radio slaves. With the progression into nature photography, Heather found the ideal medium to combine her lifelong interests in creative expression and the outdoors.

Having no previous experience or instruction in photography, she began photographing voraciously, learning from mistakes. Her travels in Vermont did not provide much in the way of contact with other photographers, but following an out of state photo seminar, she recognized a need to interact with and learn much more from other photographers. She subsequently became active in a local photo group and in online photography communities.

Heather made the transition from film to digital and as her lessons in the field continued, she benefited from the accelerated learning atmosphere of internet photography sites and from the instant feedback of digital. In early 2003, she left Vermont and an established career in accounting to pursue endeavors in nature photography. Efforts began to pay off with images published in printed and online magazines, catalogs, travel guides, and with the display and sales of her work through an art gallery and other exhibits.

Heather’s passion for photography continues today, and despite the rigorous demands of the endeavor she feels exhilarated by the exciting travel opportunities and the time she gets to spend outdoors and with wildlife. Her current equipment list includes a Canon digital SLR system and a small assortment of lenses, from wide-angle to telephoto. The quest for inspiring nature images has taken her to various destinations throughout North America.

Her role as Editor in Chief for NatureScapes.Net combines photography with her enthusiasm for writing plus an intense interest in graphic design. As one of the site operators, she coordinates the editorial content, designs and updates web pages, and manages membership and the NatureScapes.Net store. Through this affiliation she has met some extraordinary people.
